Robin Hood Marian Picture gallery. "That Lucy Look".

It is interesting comparing these Marian pictures with those of the first Lucy Griffiths Gallery on the Robin Hood series 1 site.
Above: Marian makes an all too rare appearance in Sherwood Forest.
Above: Lady in Red, Marian the seductive temptress.
Above & below: Masked, and unmasked.
Above: Marian faces the gallows. Below: Lucy in chains... (don't even go there!)
Above: Raunchy in the forest. Below: Teenager in Love.

There are more links to Maid Marian here.

Hi Robin- What a lovely selection of Lucy/Marian pictures you have displayed She really will be a loss to the production and will surely be a very hard act to follow in any capacity. It is very strange that so many of the cast are mentioned as either filming or in post production and she has never been mentioned for months its almost as if she has vanished off the face of the earth!!

Hence all the crazy rumours.

But she should be careful. If the "mystique" game is what she and her agent are playing, it could backfire.

I'm STILL not aware of any official comments about her leaving. If anyone has actual, plausible links, please post. Otherwise, time to move on Hoodies.

Maybe she doesn`t have any other work .The only official comment has been by the commisioning editor
which certainly indicates she was written out .
If she was filming it would be out now. We are talking around nine months since r.h.
Great shame

Hi Robin - I have never heard of the official comment by the commissioning editor either what exactly is it?

Hi anon., and Hi Evielyn,

I'm afraid I don't know what "the official comment by the commissioning editor" actually is.

I have read only two official comments about Lucy's departure:

BBC Nottingham, where the reporter glibly says "The word is that actor Lucy Griffiths wanted to quit her role to further a career in Hollywood", and yet provides no evidence or source…

And then in the same article the BBC statement:

"Lucy Griffiths has been on a fantastic journey with the show and is now exploring other opportunities. Her portrayal was romantic and feisty at the same time. She is certainly the Marian for this generation. In the future Robin may find a different love but no one will ever directly replace Marian", - all of which actually says absolutely nothing at all as to reasons.

For those wishing to read it themselves, or listen to interviews with the cast:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/nottingham/content/articles/2007/12/31/killing_maid_marian_feature.shtml

The second comment I read was the one from the BBC which said it chose to say nothing further unless Lucy or her agent wished to do so. (Words to that effect). But for the life of me I can't find that link.

This comment could sound ominous, but it could equally well mean "we don't want to spoil a potential deal she's got lined up if Hollywood can be made to think we still want her".

Who knows? Well, whoever does know is clearly not saying.

----------------

99% of what is going around is simply speculation by the fans, which gets translated into "fact". Remember the drunken Anjali rumour of last year? And that she'd been sacked? I don't know what her faith system is, but she maybe doesn't even touch the stuff.

--------------

Can I repeat the following:

1. The fact Lucy Griffiths doesn't have projects listed doesn't mean she has no work. It can equally well mean she's turning down offers looking for the right one, and / or the right deal. There must be loads of offers come her way. Who performed better than her during both series? No-one.

2. Anyone can open a MySpace site with any name you like. For example, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger all apparently have MySpace sites. Guess what? It's not them, and it's not illegal. Even Errol Flynn has a MySpace site, and he's been dead for decades!

3. If anyone has information please provide a reliable link to a credible source.

This site doesn't condone the illegal posting of videos, although it does appreciate the creative stuff produced by people like Yorkshire Wench.

The people who advertise at the top of these Robin Hood blogs help support the site costs by doing so, and all sell official merchandise.

Persons wishing to support this blog can have a look 'round there, even if they don't buy.

i am hunting for the comment from the commisioning editor which was in response to the deluge of complaints and e mails .
I am paraphrasing -she said the character Marian was written out to make way for new characters and it was a difficult decision to make . she also added that the character Guy would get his just deserts.
I will find the link eventually and let you know but on this blog site the whole response was lifted and pasted in .
Actually, myself and a colleague were down working in your neck of the woods and we utilised the blog for information.
She might not have offers although she was excellent in R.H she does not have a history.
Apro buxxxx all does anyone have any ideas who is playin R.H and Marian in Crowe`s film.
Anji has just completed filming -do not know what as the traffic news came on and the radio automatically switched over.
They are filming Mary Queen of Scots with scarl

Hi Kitty,

Can't help you with the Marian question, but I have thought of putting together all we know so far about "Nottingham" the movie on my main Robin Hood blog.

The phrase "love triangle" keeps cropping up, between Robin the Sherif and Marian, and there was some speculation on one site that Ridley Scott may have had a change of mind and cast Crowe as Robin instead of the Sheriff. (More rumoiurs?) Early days.

Thankyou so much for taking the time (once again) to post that. I just couldn't for the life of me remember where I'd heard it. So, if you don't mind, it's worth repeating:

Emailed to Evielyn (above) on 09/03/08 at17-42, from admin@robinhood2006.com: "I am aware of the various blogs talking about why Lucy has left Robin Hood. Thank you for your recent e-mail.

I’m sorry you were disappointed by Marian’s death in the final episode of Robin Hood. Our aim was simply to tell the best story we could imagine and create a story that felt engaging and surprising for the audience. We felt that Robin Hood mattered most to our audience, and what mattered most to Robin was Marian...and therein lay the most compelling and dramatic climax to the end of Series 2.

Rest assured that Sir Guy of Gisborne has not got away with killing Marian and evil certainly hasn't prevailed over good. This is something that Sir Guy of Gisborne will have to live with forever and Series 3 will see him struggle with the consequences of Marian's death.

Robin Hood is a returning drama series that we hope will be entertaining families for years to come. In order to achieve this we need to make difficult decisions to ensure the series survives, and that there's room to introduce new characters and new storylines.

The show is made with such passion by everyone involved in the production, so we really hope you will give Series 3 a chance.”

Yours sincerely

Hi anonymous,

Thanks for the information about the Paul O Grady show. I might not be home on the third, but I'd like to see that. I saw Keith Allen on parkinson, and he was funny, but hardly mentioned Robin Hood at all.

Thanks also for the information about the DVD release for America. I do get a lot of American and Australian readers.

Regarding your other point: All your comments do make sense. Thanks for the input. But there's not always anyone around to respond straight away.

Certainly keeping to the top of the blog like this, where people are most likely to see it, (and giving yourself a name?), does help.

interesting bit of info i found out on the on the RH series 2 dvd they have lots of extras, on there like a making of featurette, an edward featurette and this will make people interested the best part.
are you ready a MARIAN FEATURETTE WHICH FOCUSES ON THE DRAMATIC ENDING HA!
im suprised the bbc would of wanted that to be honest, but that could be interesting to watch, and to see what made them think about doing that ending and maybe why they did it in the first place. you never know.

im sure are overseas friends will find this interesting and report back to us brits when they have seen it and i have no doubt that this will be a new topic to emerge around the internet via blogs, forums etc..... and will become another big disscussion for a long period of time and if are friends overseas find more evidence and facts by watching it, it will be another thing to blame the writers/bbc for and that means more fire power against them

and you never know maybe there might be some clues there which suggest what is going to happen next we just have to wait and see.

so are american and aussie friends if you find anything thing strange or any evidence, facts that are interesting while watching it, please get back to us and disscuss it, we will be so interested to know. and it may shed some light on the situation
thanx!!

Here's the link about the above Robin Hood Series 2 DVD

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Robin-Hood-Season-2-DVD-Season-1-Blu-ray/9260

I don't know if there is a Region 2 release planned, or if this will be Region 0.

It might be that the BBC hope to boost sales by including the Marian featurette and capitalising on so much internet rumour and speculation amongst fans..... It may or may not throw light on the subject. Perhaps someone will let us all know.

Thanks anonymous for the info.

29 March 2008 at 16:57:00 GMT
Anonymous Anonymous said...

yes i agree with you there its perfect to boost sales, sales will not have been great without it because people would not want to buy it because they dont want to relive the finale again bbc knows this. so what better way for the sales to go up BY PUTTING A MARIAN FEATURETTE IN focusing on the ending. now people will by the dvd because they love the show in general apart from the finale.

but when they find out about the featurette they will be excited because they would then want to know and see if there are any clues in that featurette as to what is to happen next. and so they can draw their own conclusions, and figure out why the writers did it this way and what made them come to that decision and possibly other desisions.

this will definatly boost sales and the bbc knows this its clever very clever indeed, all in all people will want to know.
on the other hand this colud bbc the bbcs way of telling people what was going on and getting it out in the open you never know , i doubt it though.

reply thanx!!

One of my extremely cynical(absoloutely not interested in r,h,at all thinks i should take up jogging instead) friends who is involved in P.R type occupation states that the whole of the. Marian death was a brilliant piece of P.R .She is highly cynical as she points out every year there is something
1-before it is on -they lose the tapes -stolen .Obviously, a market for an english speaking video of R.H in Hungary ?
2. At the end of sesion 1 -the chief writer complains he doesn`t know whether or not it is agood idea to have a second series as he was fed up with the carping and people expectations were too high.
3.they kill the main female lead in most peculiar circumstances .
4. the same lead has disappeared off the wasteland -to make what -war and peace two ?
A lot of the sensible information came from australia where lucy Griffiths was wandering around Australia publicising R.H in january .
My friend the great cynic also ponted out the comments in the r.h complaint site in B.B.C nottingham are all weighted . in otherwords those that have come up with the real plot have not been included .
She also pointed out that in the television climate just now anything that wins remains .

Blogger robin hood said...

Kitty,

1. I've always taken the lost tapes story with a huge pinch of salt.

2. Where is Lucy indeed? Why aren't the paparazzi at all interested in her?

3. Was Lucy actually in Australia? The only interview I read looked like a cut and paste of old stuff. Why would she be promoting a show which she was no longer a part of? I haven't checked YouTube. Was she on TV over there?

Hi Robin I wonder if Lucy was badly advised - it has happened before to characters in TV programmes. A character is so popular really on a high and then out of the blue they decide to quit ( thinking they have it made) they leave their bread and butter only to never be heard of again ( I can think of at least 2 TV actors that this has happened to but wouldn,t dream of mentioning either on your blog) It is such a shame as she really will be a hard act to follow especially as no other females were ever mentioned i.e. as a friend or a confident to Marian in either series 1or 2, so the scriptwriters really will be going in blind with any new stories. Very hard indeed to make them at all believable

Hi Evielyn,

What's even more ridiculous is that we have NO female member of cast.

Nobody for the girls to identify with.

Nobody for the guys to oggle over. (Especially the dads).

As to the "advised" bit, it's possible I guess. You mean like "doing a Robbie?" Tricky move to pull off....

Rumours abound that she will return, but that won't be at the start of the series. So, as I say, no female cast member as yet.

No doubt there'll be a "newbie", and she'll have the same difficulty filling Lucy's boots as did the replacement for Rose in Dr Who.

heres a bit of info its nothing about series 3 unfortunatly, but does have to do with marian coming back here goes.....

i have often been all over the internet and come across petitions and what not i check them out everyday just to read others comments but today i went on the save marian one and there goal was to reach 500 signitures which they did and more they had 811 signitures, and people say you need 500 at least to make a difference even if it is small or will work.
but now the petition has closed no one can sigh anymore, which means they have all the signitures they need, which brings me to my point now that the petiton is done where does it go from here?
does it go off to the bbc or the writers or tiger aspect, now all the work is done.
i dont know much about how petitions work or what becomes of them im hoping someone can help me understand about them

thanx!!

Hi - I myself have often wondered about petitions and if they do in fact work There has certainly been a lot of adverse publicity over the Marian/Lucy fiasco and I am sure more will come in as S2 airs in Oz and the States (given the fact that so many over there know already what is happeneing via the internet and other means)The worst kept secret in years!! You would have to be on a differant planet altogether not to have heard about it beforehand. What does Lucy's fanclub say about the situation?
Re your Fantasy version Robin definately a flesh eating zombie hopefully roaming the Castle and seeking out Guy. Anything but a new love for Robin you can just picture it in say Episode 4 Hi Gang (of3) here is Mary/ Gladys/ Ermentrude the new love of my life !! I don't think so

Its probably quite true that the BBC only commissioned the series, but unfortunately they have to take the flak if things go wrong. After all they accept the bouquets and glory if a programme is good so they have to take the rough with the smooth.

Hi anonymous

I've been saying this all along, and the example I keep using is of how the BBC controller said he'd gone back on the decision to exclude a Friar Tuck, and that he now wanted one. But, as we all know, the Friar still didn't turn up!

But Evielyn is right. Listen to Keith Allen on TV tonight, proclaiming that Robin hood was one of the BBC's biggest hits. He didn't say "Tiger Productions"...

That is true -the commisoning editor will go along to meetings but that is it . B.B.C commision for a specific price , that is one of the reasons production companies are inclined to use unknown actors (Cheaper ) the b.b.c sells the series abroad and keeps the roayalties .
